With the NHL trade deadline less than a month away, one of the main targets for the Toronto Maple Leafs talks about his uncertain future with his current team.
"It's a mental break. It's something you kind of put on pause a little bit just being here."
While Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said over the weekend that contract negotiations between Nelson and the Islanders are getting underway, Nelson knows things could change in an instant.
"I know there's a lot of speculation from outside and different things, and people have already decided for me a couple times what's going to happen. It's all outside, and we'll handle everything, and everything will sort itself out."
Nelson seemed somewhat annoyed by the questions on a possible trade from reporters, adding people will just have to wait to see what happens.
"I want what's best for me, family, team and everything. So, there's a lot of factors that go into it. I know everybody kind of wants an answer right now, but that's not how the world works. You don't always get what you want."
There are other options for the Leafs as they look to fill a hole at centre in their lineup. It was recently rumoured that Brayden Schenn was available and Toronto GM Brad Treliving is certainly interested, but the St. Louis Blues have an absurd asking price that amounts to a real curveball for the Leafs.
