It's no secret that the newly formed Utah Hockey Club want to make a big splash this off-season in an attempt to cast away the years of mediocrity that followed their predecessors in Arizona. Holding onto the 6th overall pick ahead of this year's draft has brought about a lot of trade talk and intrigue but one player that has been mentioned countless times is Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner.
Earlier this afternoon, a Marner to Utah trade confirmation post was sent out on Twitter from a New York reporter named Rob Reinhart, but David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has mentioned that it is "100% not true". A Maple Leafs team representative "poured cold water all over the report...".
With the Stanley Cup Finals wrapping up tonight and the off-season truly beginning on Wednesday with the buyout window opening, it will be very interesting to see what comes about with the Maple Leafs.
Marner has been public enemy number one this summer, and some rumours have suggested that the Leafs would like to move on from his contract while others stand firm in that the Leafs would like to extend him. Marner holds all the leverage with his full no-movement clause, so if the Leafs did want to move him, they'd require his permission.
