"2015 second-round pick Travis Dermott made his NHL debut last night and had a very special evening. Not only did he play in his first career game for the Maple Leafs, but he also picked up his first career point with the secondary assist on Tyler Bozak's game-tying goal and even had a couple of shifts with Morgan Rielly.
«I thought he was confident and moved the puck. Skated good. Looks like he's got good hockey sense. The moment — the situation — didn't intimidate him at all. I thought he was good. He was going out in overtime; we just never got to him,» head coach Mike Babcock said of the young blue liner, per Maple Leafs Hot Stove.
«(His first NHL game) was awesome,» Dermott said, per Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun. «Time of a lifetime. First period I felt like I was pretty shaky, but that's probably (what to) expect, and I felt like I went out and made the most of it.
«I made my mistakes but I'm not mad about it. I'll take those and learn and go forward.»
Now that Dermott has played his first game, the question is how often he will be in the lineup.
«We're just going to watch him like all guys,» said Babcock. «Everyone comes to the National Hockey League and in the first game, everything is great. And then the next game, and the next game… Over a period of time, we'll see if he's a regular NHL player. If he can help us, he'll play.»
What did you think of Travis Dermott's NHL debut?"
