With the Toronto Maple Leafs trailing heading into the third period, Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies highlighted why the Leafs are different this year.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were trailing 1-0 heading into the final frame of their contest against the Nashville Predators before the core players came to the forefront and mounted a comeback victory through resiliency and work ethic.

Auston Matthews scored the tying goal 31 seconds into the period and then added his second tally just 1:58 later to give his club the lead. Matthews, who just recently returned from a lengthy absence, dangled his way past the defense before finishing his shot through Juuse Saros' five-hole for his 2nd of the period and 8th on the season.

Then, with a 1-goal lead, Matthew Knies fed William Nylander with a ridiculous no-look pass while on the power play for a goal that stood to be the game-winner.

Knies received a pass from Mitch Marner in front of the net before finding Nylander through his legs and underneath the defender for his 16th of the season. The play was absolutely absurd.

What shouldn't go unnoticed was Marner's play against the Preds, as he recorded 3 assists to help his club secure their 16th win of the season. Marner now has 3 consecutive multi-point efforts and 10 multi-point showings over his last 12 games.

It has been mentioned countless time so far this season, but the Maple Leafs look like a completely different team under Craig Berube. They're playing with a lot more hustle, effort, determination, and they also showed a lot of resiliency tonight, despite only trailing by 1 goal.

Joseph Woll was largely solid once again tonight after allowing a fluke goal to start the game to earn his 7th win of the season - and 6th straight - and they were also able to keep the Predators' comeback attempt at bay once Mark Jankowski cut the deficit back to 1.

The 16-7-2 Maple Leafs will head into their next game on Friday against the Washington Capitals, looking to extend their winning streak to 4 games.
