"While still not official, the NHL season is pretty much a lock to start around January 13. There's still some details to be ironed out however the most important, financial differences, has been agreed upon by the NHL and NHLPA. With the news, players overseas are starting to head back to North America so they can go through their mandatory quarantine before being able to start showing up to team facilities. One of those players is new Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Joe Thornton. The 41 year old has been playing in Sweden with HC Davos and after 12 games there jumped on a plane Monday morning to head to Toronto. Thornton registered 11 points in 12 games for Davos which included five goals. Davos team manager Raeto Raffainer said despite Thornton's age, the forward has been an absolute beast. "A lot of people are laughing: 'He's so old! Blah, blah, blah.' But the impact he has on the ice, on the game, is still unbelievable," Raffainer told Luke Fox of Sportsnet. "We're one of the fastest-skating leagues in the world, and he's still producing one point per game." Are you excited to see what Thornton can do in a Leafs' uniform?
Joe Thornton is travelling to Toronto today ahead of the anticipated return of the NHL. He had 11 points in 12 games in his stint at HC Davos. https://t.co/DyxDSZBz5G — Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) December 14, 2020
