For Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews, so much of his brand is tied to his image, and we could see a drastic change in his image sooner than later.
Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews had a remarkable 2023-2024 season, as he scored a magnificent 69 goals in 81 games, on his way to his 3rd Rocket Richard trophy.
Matthews has always been big on image and fashion, dating back to before he was even drafted by the Maple Leafs 1st overall in 2016. He even briefly modeled during his time in Zurich, Switzerland.
A photo emerged recently which shows Matthews relaxing by the pool, enjoying a well-deserved vacation. The photo shows us that Matthews may be parting ways with his signature flow, whether he wants to or not.
We can probably go ahead and blame genetics for the drastic incoming change, as Auston's father, Brian Matthews, is as bald as they come. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, but it will take some time for fans to adjust to Matthews' new appearance if and when he does decide to accept his fate.
Some changes are afoot in Toronto this summer - that much we know. Now, it just seems like a matter of time until Matthews accepts that the trademark flow will soon be gone, whether he likes it or not, and just like when Ryan Getzlaf parted with his lettuce, it took some getting used to initially, but before long, everyone adjusted and moved on. So, too, will it happen with Matthews.
