Insider reporting some major movement on the Patrick Kane front
The Patrick Kane saga remains one of the more interesting storylines to follow after the first 15 games of the season. Kane is back to full health and is ramping up efforts, along with his agent, in trying to narrow down the list of teams with which he'd be willing to sign.
Kane is a UFA for the first time in his NHL career, and coming off of offseason hip surgery, there are certainly a lot of question marks about how Kane's body will hold up moving forward and whether or not he'll return at anywhere close to the same level that he's played at over the past few seasons.
On Tuesday's edition of TSN's Insider Trading, Darren Dreger provided an exciting update on Kane's UFA tour, stating that there will be some movement on the Kane front this week, leading into early next week, when we will hopefully have a decision.
"It's a big week for Patrick Kane and his agent, Pat Brisson. They will engage with NHL clubs this week, which means they'll interview coaches and general managers.
The list is less than 10 teams. It's probably closer to 8 teams and they're going to try and cut that down as early as the weekend. They hope to have a final decision, perhaps, in place early next week, identifying the new home for Patrick Kane and where he will return to the National Hockey League." - Dreger with the latest on the Patrick Kane saga
Kane would obviously welcome a return to the New York Rangers, as New York was the team that he forced the trade to before the playoffs. Some other teams who are confirmed to have a legitimate interest are the Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs - this being confirmed in a report just last week. It's anyone's guess whom the other 4 teams might be.
On the Leafs, John Shannon has reported that Kane officially met with Brad Treliving on Tuesday. It's really anyone's guess where he winds up, but the fact that he took a meeting with Treliving in Toronto is a pretty good indicator that the Leafs are likely one of the more serious suitors.
