The hockey world has been at a bit of a standstill since late Thursday evening/early Friday morning as it continues to mourn the losses of Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother, Matthew Gaudreau, after the pair were hit by drunk driver Sean Higgins while on their bicycles.
After he was detained by police, Higgins appeared in video court over the weekend, where he was informed that he would remain in custody until at least Thursday. The driver showed no remorse for the lives he had taken and even seemed bothered by the fact that he wouldn't be released this weekend.
As far as how the two brothers came to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, John Buccigross has mentioned that the pair had been at their sister's wedding rehearsal dinner and had opted to ride their bicycles home instead of driving or catching a ride with another family member.
A half of a week later, and this ordeal still doesn't feel real. The world lost two beautiful souls last week, who leave behind young families as their wives, Meredith and Madeline, are left to fend for themselves and their children, who will never know their fathers as they continue to grow. It's truly heartbreaking.
Higgins, as reported over the weekend, also had a DUI charge back in 2005, which was dropped after the arresting officer in South Carolina failed to show up for the scheduled court date.
