According to a recent report, the NHL is pondering a change in the next CBA that would see a significant change to team uniforms.

One topic of discussion that generally brings about a lot of debate is whether or not the NHL should go back to their old ruling where the home team wears white jerseys and the road team wears their darker sweaters.
The NHL changed that ruling ahead of the 2003-04 season, allowing the home team to wear their dark jerseys, leaving the visiting team to wear their white jerseys. There are one-off exceptions here and there, as well as alternate jerseys, but it's something that has bugged a big faction of NHL fans.
During Team Canada and Team USA's bout during the 4 Nations Face-Off on Saturday night, the editor in chief of The Hockey News, Ryan Kennedy, dropped a juicy bit of information that should satiate that aforementioned faction of NHL fans:
"Exciting sartorial gossip: I'm told the NHL might switch back to white jerseys at home, dark jerseys on the road in the next CBA. But could we ever see dark on dark sometimes, I wonder? Red Detroit vs. Blue Toronto, for example."
While that in it of itself is an exciting topic that will be brought up at the next CBA, something else that has been discussed due to the 4 Nations Face-Off is allowing both teams to wear their coloured or darker uniforms at the same time, as long as the colour schemes don't interfere with one another.
We got to see the Canadian red clash against the American blue on Saturday, and it was certainly aesthetically pleasing to see both nation's colours proudly adorned during one of the most highly anticipated matchups in recent memory.
As Kennedy mentions, the NHL could adopt a similar stance where we could see a Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings matchup with both Original 6 teams adorning their respective primary colours at the same time, as an example.
The NHL is set to table discussions about a new CBA in the early portion of 2025, but this is a topic that should be resolved before the new season begins.
It will be interesting to see if the NHL goes back to their rule that stood between 1970-71 to 2002-03 or if they are content with keeping things as is.
