A top Leafs prospect has been traded
After surprising just about everyone in the hockey sphere this fall, Fraser Minten made headline news when he made the Toronto Maple Leafs' opening night roster out of training camp. The story was perhaps the most interesting one prior to the start of the season, at least in Toronto, and although he played just 4 games before being sent down, Minten making the big club out of camp as a 19-year-old was exciting for the fanbase and really had the NHL talking.
After being sent back down to Kamloops in the WHL, Minten was promptly named captain of the Blazers - an incredible honour for the young Leafs prospect. However, he didn't get to wear the C very long as TSN's Darren Dreger just reported that Minten has been traded.
Per Dreger, Minten has been dealt to the Saskatoon Blades. If that name sounds familiar, it should. The Leafs have another intriguing prospect who happens to play for the Blades in 2022 draft pick, Brandon Lisowsky.
Minten has played only 7 games due to his late start in the WHL, but he has accumulated 10 points in those 7 games, thanks to a 3-point performance against the Lethbridge Hurricanes this week in a 7-3 loss. Now with the Blades, Minten will have a real opportunity to do some damage with a contending team.
The Kamloops Blazers currently sit dead last in the B.C. Division, owners of a 5-13-2 record. Meanwhile, the Saskatoon Blades currently sit atop the East Division, boasting a 15-8-0 record.
The full details of the trade are Fraser Minten heading to Saskatoon in exchange for 1st round picks in 2024 and 2025, a 4th round pick in 2024 and Jordan Keller.
