While you might assume that the 37-year-old may still have some gas left in the tank, according to one NHL Insider, we could yet see Stastny announce his retirement this summer.
Per Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli on his latest edition of the DFO Rundown, he claimed to have heard from someone that the 17-year NHL veteran is hanging up his skates. If that's the case, the Quebec-born Slovakian will have ended his career without that elusive Stanley Cup ring.
Stastny began his career as a member of the Colorado Avalanche, the same organization (Avalanche/Noriques) with which his father, Peter Stastny, had also began his NHL career. Paul played 8 seasons with the Avs before making stops in St. Louis, Winnipeg, Vegas, back to Winnipeg and then Carolina.
Stastny appeared in 73 games for the Canes last season, tallying 9 goals and 13 assists for 22 points. He is currently an unrestricted free agent.
If this truly is the end of the line for Stastny, we wish he and his family all the best in this next chapter of their lives.
