15-year NHL veteran calls it quits, joins Seattle Kraken's front office
The Seattle Kraken have announced a brand new acquisition for the Hockey Ops department in the form of a 15-year NHL veteran and former New York Islanders 3rd round draft pick, Frans Nielsen.
Per a report from the Seattle Kraken's official Twitter account, Nielsen will take on the role of player development consultant. The now 38-year-old had spent last season with the Berlin Polar Bears of the DEL in Germany. Prior to his time in Germany, Nielsen had spent his previous 5 seasons as a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
Nielsen racked up 925 regular season NHL games, split between the Islanders and Red Wings, notching 167 goals and 473 total points. He also saw 24 games of playoff action, recording 10 playoff points. He was the 87th overall pick back in 2002.
Congrats to Nielsen on his retirement and best of luck to him in his new position with the Kraken.
