The Toronto Maple Leafs are starting to put their slow start behind them with a 3-game win streak, with two of the wins coming against the Bruins and Hurricanes on back-to-back nights. While they have been playing better than they were in October, it is still clear that the team has some struggles defensively and could use another player on the back end.

When discussing a potential fit on defence for the Leafs, Sportsnet Hockey Analyst Mike Futa noted that Seattle Kraken Defenseman Carson Soucy could check a lot of boxes for the Buds.

Soucy has had a good start to the season, registering 1 goal and 4 points in 13 games for the Kraken, with a +7 rating. While the point totals aren't outstanding, the 28-year-old is known more for his shutdown ability and physical prowess, so any offense he provides is a bonus. That is exactly the type of defenseman the Leafs have been missing in their lineup. Not to mention he can play both the left and right side and carries a cap-hit of only $2.75M for the remainder of this year.

Jeff Marek had stated that a lot of teams have been calling about Soucy, likely for the same reasons listed above, so if the Leafs were to try to acquire him, they will have to out-bid the other interested clubs. Whether it is Carson Soucy, or someone else, the Leafs still need an upgrade on defense with the absence of Jake Muzzin and it will be interesting to see how they fill this need.
