Former Maple Leafs goalie Keith Petruzzelli showed his physical side this week as he dropped the gloves for a rare goalie fight in the ECHL.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs face goaltending health issues due to an injury to Anthony Stolarz, a former Leafs netminder is making headlines for a very different reason.

Keith Petruzzelli, who briefly played for the Maple Leafs organization, found himself in a goalie fight while playing for the Reading Royals in the ECHL this week. His opponent was David Fessenden, the goalie for the Adirondack Thunder.

As per to Nick Barden on X:

''Former Maple Leafs prospect Keith Petruzzelli gets into a goalie fight in the ECHL with the Reading Royals.

Toronto never extended the goaltender a qualifying offer after the 2023-24 season ended.''

In the fight, Petruzzelli was thoroughly outmatched, leading many to believe that he might be better off sticking to stopping pucks rather than throwing punches.

After Toronto declined to offer him a qualifying deal, Petruzzelli signed with the Philadelphia Flyers organization. Having spent three years with the Leafs, Petruzzelli is now starting for the Reading Royals of the ECHL, where he has a 4-8-3 record, a 0.899 save percentage, and a 3.06 goals against average.

Do the Maple Leafs have enough goaltending depth to wait for Anthony Stolarz to recover from injury?
