Per the team's official Twitter account, Ovechkin has tested positive for COVID-19 and has entered protocol. Under the new testing guidelines, I believe that means that Ovechkin is exhibiting symptoms and will need to produce a pair of negative tests 24 hours apart and show signs that his symptoms are improving or have cleared up prior to being allowed to return to action.
The other piece of unfortunate news is that Ovechkin will also be ineligible to travel to Las Vegas for the 2022 Honda NHL All-Star Game this weekend. At this point, a replacement from the Metro Division has not been named, but I would anticipate an announcement on another Metro representative being named this afternoon.
