As per Rich Keefe, the Boston Bruins and forward David Pastrnak are closing in on a contract extension. The deal is expected to be worth $88 million over 8 years. This would equate to an $11 million cap hit per season. Pastrnak is currently in the last season of a deal that paid him $40 million over 6 years ($6,666,667 AAV).

Pastrnak was originally drafted in the first round (25th overall) of the 2014 NHL entry draft by the Bruins. The Czech winger has spent all nine years of his NHL career in Boston. The 26-year-old has put up 554 points (265 goals & 289 assists) in 546 career NHL games. His career high came in the 2019-20 season, when he scored 48 goals en route to winning the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy (tying with Alex Ovechkin). Of course, Auston Matthews finished that season (which was cut short due to the emergence of COVID-19) with 47.

Pastrnak is on pace for a career season. Through 36 games this season, he has posted 25 goals and 50 points, leading his team in both categories. Additionally, he is on pace for a career high 57 goals and 114 points.
