After a record-setting season for Auston Matthews, of course he was awarded the Hart Trophy for being the NHL's Most Outstanding Player. Matthews beat out the likes of Vezina winner Igor Shesterkin and perennial Art Ross winner Connor McDavid. Matthews is the first Leaf to win the award since Ted Kennedy in 1955, which was 67 years agobecause of course it was.

Matthews became the first Leaf to score 60 goals in a season, shattering Rick Vaive's long standing record of 54 and recorded his first 100+ point season. Not only did Matthews score 60 goals, but he scored 51 goals in a 50-game span. A feat that had not been accomplished since the early 90's.

Matthews also took home the Ted Lindsay Award earlier in the evening. It was a banner season individually for Matthews, bringing home three of the league's mossy prestigious individual awards. Although, if you'd ask him, I'm sure he'd trade them all plus his Rocket Richard Trophy from last year and his Calder Trophy from his rookie season for one Stanley Cup.
