Trotz, a Winnipeg native, has reportedly reached his decision and, according to TSN's Darren Dreger, has decided not to accept the head coaching position in his hometown and has identified his family as the primary reason. Trotz simply wants to spend more time with his family and nobody's going to hold that against him.
Trotz recently turned down a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers that would have made him the highest-paid coach in NHL history, paying him a reported $7+M per season. Obviously, knowing what we know now, the decision was never about the money or the opportunity for Trotz. It was about making the right decision for his family.
The 59-year-old has coached over 1,800 NHL games during his career, making 14 playoff appearances and winning a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals back in 2018. If he wants a break from the game, he's certainly earned one.
