It was really anyone's guess whether or not we'd see the Montreal Canadiens name a captain before the start of the season, or even if they'd name one at all this season.
With the departure of former captain Shea Weber this summer after he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights to provide some much needed LTIR relief, it appears as though the Habs have indeed selected a new captain.
Per the team's official Twitter account, the Canadiens have appointed 23-year-old Nick Suzuki as the 31st captain in franchise history.
Suzuki was the main piece that came back to the Habs in the Max Pacioretty trade back in 2018. Suzuki is entering his 4th year with the Canadiens and has 143 points in 209 NHL games to date.
Congrats to Suzuki on being granted the honour of wearing the "C" for one of the most storied franchises in NHL history.
