Both Bedard and fellow rookie, Kevin Korchinski, took a rookie lap without their helmets on, which carries an automatic fine of $2,500.
It wouldn't be shocking if the Chicago Blackhawks organization told Bedard and Korchinski to just do the lap without their buckets and offered to pay their $2,500 fines. The rule is a new one and while ensuring player safety was the goal in its implementation, since this was just a rookie lap, perhaps Bettman and company will let this one slide - especially since it involves one of the NHL's future superstars.
