All eyes were on Connor Bedard on Tuesday night as he made his NHL debut against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Blackhawks' season opener. Unfortunately, the 2023 1st overall pick made a crucial error prior to the game that is likely to result in a fine.

Both Bedard and fellow rookie, Kevin Korchinski, took a rookie lap without their helmets on, which carries an automatic fine of $2,500.

It wouldn't be shocking if the Chicago Blackhawks organization told Bedard and Korchinski to just do the lap without their buckets and offered to pay their $2,500 fines. The rule is a new one and while ensuring player safety was the goal in its implementation, since this was just a rookie lap, perhaps Bettman and company will let this one slide - especially since it involves one of the NHL's future superstars.
