Darryl Sutter's quote about the Milan Lucic hit on Mike Smith was an all-timer
The Edmonton Oilers skated away with a 4-1 win against the heavily favoured Calgary Flames on Sunday, thanks in large to a natural hat trick in just over 6 minutes by Evander Kane, but that wasn't even the biggest story in the game.
At the midway point of the third period, Oilers goaltender Mike Smith came out to play the puck behind the Oilers net, when Flames winger Milan Lucic ran into the veteran netminder, sending him crashing into the boards. Lucic was handed 5 and a game as a result of the play.
Following the game, Flames head coach Darryl Sutter had something to say about the play, indicating that had Lucic intended to demolish Smith on the play, he would have. The quote was a sensational one.
Game 4 goes down on Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see how the Oilers respond. Even more interesting will be whether or not Lucic will be eligible to play, or if Player Safety has anything planned for the veteran winger.
