Defenseman requests trade and mentions the Leafs as a team he'd like to join
With the Calgary Flames floundering, it seems that defenseman Nikita Zadorov wants out, as per his agent, which was confirmed shortly after their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs by NHL Insider Kevin Weekes.
Zadorov, who has previously been targeted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, is exactly what the club needs right now as he stands 6'6 and nearly 250 lbs, doesn't shy away from the physical game, blocks shots and has a powerful shot from the point.
Zadorov currently has 1 goal and 4 assists in 12 games this season, averages close to 18 and a half minutes a night, has blocked 10 shots, finished 24 hits, and is a key penalty killer for the Flames.
For his career, the former first round pick from the 2013 NHL Entry Draft has played in 579 games in parts of 11 seasons for the Buffalo Sabres, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks and, of course, the Flames. He has 42 goals, 131 points, 588 PIMs, has averaged 18:10 TOI, and has 608 blocks to 1,615 hits.
He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and currently carries a cap hit of $3.75 million dollars. Most importantly, as Chris Johnston points out, he'd welcome a trade to the Leafs.
