We already know that a number of the players he brought in during his time in Toronto will test free agency, including Alexander Kerfoot, Justin Holl, Ryan O'Reilly and Luke Schenn, among others. However, he could also end up pursuing a former Leafs goalie, stemming back to when he was still an AGM with the Leafs under Lou Lamoriello.
Per TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Dubas could look to sign Frederik Andersen in free agency on Saturday, should things take a turn for the worse with UFA goaltender Tristan Jarry in Pittsburgh.
Andersen spent 5 years with the Leafs from 2016-2021 before testing free agency in the summer of 2021. He signed a 2-year, $9M with the Canes, taking a bit of a hair cut with a $4.5M AAV after earning $5M in each of his previous 5 seasons in Toronto. Andersen posted a 21-11-1 record this season, with a .903 SV% and a 2.48 GAA.
Dubas opted to back the younger Jack Campbell and also signed Petr Mrazek over bringing back Andersen in 2021. It will be interesting to see whether Andersen would be open to a reunion with Dubas, knowing the young GM had passed on him just 2 years ago.
