Dave Pagnotta from The Fourth Period reported last night the Leafs will be signing Ryan Reaves to a multi-year deal when free agency opens this afternoon. Later in the evening, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Leafs are also looking to add some grit and toughness to their top six and are prepared to make an offer to former Red Wing and Bruin Tyler Bertuzzi.

Adding Bertuzzi would not only replace the grittiness from Michael Bunting, but would add more toughness as well. Bertuzzi was traded from Detroit to Boston at the deadline and had 10 points in 7 playoff games with the Bruins after posting 30 points in 50 regular season games. Bertuzzi is reportedly seeking a contract that would pay him somewhere around $6M per season and while that seems like a lot given his injury history, he is the type of player every team covets come playoff time.

With the Leafs adding Reaves and possibly adding Bertuzzi, they could be getting a hell of a lot nastier to play against with just two moves, which is something that was needed against Florida as the Panthers' grinders ran all over the Leafs' stars with zero repercussions.
