With the Edmonton Oilers rolling into Calgary and pulling off what can only be described as a dominant series upset in the Battle of Alberta, downing the Flames 4-1 and eliminating them at home, the attention now turns to pending UFA Johnny Gaudreau and what awaits him this summer.

Gaudreau shot the lights out this season, and the timing couldn't have been any better for the 28-year-old, as he posted career highs in goals (40), assists (75) and points (115) in a contract year, which is almost certainly going to see him get PAID this summer. The question is, will it be in Calgary? Or will he have a new home next season?

There are a lot of different factors that I'll need to consider before I make a decision. I'm going to spend some time back home with my family, talk to my college friend Kevin, and make a decision.

-Gaudreau on his future

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman suggested that if the Flames don't feel as though any real traction is being made during contract negotiations, they could move Gaudreau's negotiating rights to another team to get something, rather than letting him walk for nothing.

I have no doubt teams, maybe not right away but over the next little while, will reach out and see if the Flames are interested in trading his rights if they don't think they can make a deal, but I still think that is a bit of time away.

-Friedman on the possibility of Gaudreau's rights being moved

Gaudreau could command in the neighborhood of $9M-$10M on his next deal after the season he just had.
