NHL Insider Chris Johnston took some time to outline some of the Leafs' primary options in goal in free agency if Campbell does decide to walk and if Mrazek is dealt or bought out. There were more than a few intriguing options.
Among the names brought up by Johnston were Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN), Darcy Kuemper (COL), Braden Holtby (DAL) and Martin Jones (SJ), all veteran goaltenders who have experienced varying levels of success, with Fleury (obviously) being the most decorated. Holtby also has a Stanley Cup ring and could be a solid value add as a 1B option.
Some of the more intriguing names on the list were a bit lower down, as Ville Husso, Eric Comrie and Alexandar Georgiev. Of these 3 options, Husso is undoubtedly due the biggest raise after swooping in and taking the starting job in St. Louis from Stanley Cup winner Jordan Binnington. Husso also had a ridiculously high goals saved above average (GSAA) of 15.0 this season.
It wouldn't shock me to see the Leafs go with two options from this list in a 1A/1B scenario to try to keep the cost down, as opposed to paying Jack Campbell as much as $5M or more per season.
