After being traded earlier this week, Rasmus Sandin made his debut for his new team last night, the Washington Capitals. Sandin was traded from the Leafs to the Caps for Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first round pick (BOS) on the very same day that GM Kyle Dubas traded for Luke Schenn and shipped Pierre Engvall to Long Island.

Sandin skated on the top pair for Washington on Saturday against the Sharks and it was a memorable debut for the 22-year-old. In just under 22 minutes of ice time, Sandin registered 3 assists, 3 hits, 1 block and was a +1. Good for him for taking advantage of the opportunity, which was something he never could quite grasp in Toronto.

On numerous occasions, particularly this year, Sandin struggled to seize the opportunities he was given in a top-four role for the Leafs. It's too early to say for sure whether this trade will come back to haunt Dubas and the Leafs or if this was simply a case of Sandin catching lightning in a bottle and having good legs due to the excitement of playing his first game with his new team.
