Former Maple Leafs defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin took perhaps the craziest hit recorded this year from Vegas' Keegan Kolesar in the first period of the Golden Knights/Sabres game last night. Chasing after the puck early if the first period, Lyubushkin took a hit from behind that caused him to do a complete somersault flip. Kolesar ended up taking a penalty on the play - a 2-minute boarding call.
Thankfully, it appears that Lyubushkin was ok as he popped right back up to defend himself in a pushing and shoving match with the Vegas Golden Knights players.
One has to think that at the very least that the NHL Department of Player safety will at least take a look at this violent hit from behind to see if it warrants a suspension. It was certainly a dangerous hit and could have ended much worse than it did.
