Former Leafs GM expected to join Flames' front office
The Calgary Flames have reportedly chosen long-time Flame Craig Conroy as their new GM and will make the official announcement at some point this week. In addition to Conroy being named as new GM, they are also expected to announce that Jarome Iginla and former Leafs GM Dave Nonis will be joining the front office as well.
Nonis was the Leafs' GM from January 2013 to April of 2015 before he was let go and Lou Lamoriello was brought in. Nonis served as Senior VP of Hockey Ops for the Leafs from 2008 until January 2013. Nonis was able to get the Leafs back into the playoffs in 2013 for the first time since 2004, but were eliminated in the infamous Game 7 collapse against Boston.
Since leaving Toronto, Nonis joined the Anaheim Ducks for a second stint until last year when he was let go by current GM Pat Verbeek. What Nonis' role in Calgary will be is unknown at this time, but we'd expect some clarity on that this week.
