Campbell's 31-9-6 record earned him a 5 year, $25 million deal worth the Edmonton Oilers last summer. His first season in Alberta was saved from complete disaster by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl out scoring the Oilers litany of issues, Campbell's 21-9-4 record was completely fraudulent considering his abysmal .888sv%. To say the least, Campbell did not live up to his expensive new contract.
Now, with 4 years left on that contract and his starting job being taken over by sophomore Stuart Skinner, the Oilers may decide to cut their losses. According to Allan Mitchell of The Athletic, Campbell will start the 2023-24 season on a very short leash. If his game doesn't improve, he will quickly find himself on the trade block, although without a sweetener or retained salary, I can't see any team being interested in Campbell at his current pay grade. He left the Leafs to chase more money, now that money has him stuck in a place that, by the sounds of it, doesn't want him.
