This will be the third time Reimer will hit the free agent market in his career. He was initially traded to San Jose from the Toronto Maple Leafs just before the 2016 trade deadline, then left that summer to go to the Florida Panthers as a free agent, only to return to San Jose again during the summer of 2021 after three seasons with the Panthers and one with the Hurricanes.
Reimer ended last season with a .890 SV% in 43 games played, leaving him ranked 46th amongst all goalies. The Sharks won 12 of the 43 games he started in net.
While his best days are certainly behind him, it stands to reason that Reimer will likely still find himself a home on July 1st or shortly thereafter - whether as a backup goaltender or a competent, trustworthy 3rd goalie with a ton of experience.
