Mikheyev went West to Vancouver for $4.75M per season while Lyubushkin went just down the QEW to Buffalo for $2.75M per season. In both cases, the ask was far too rich for the Leafs. However, one former NHLer believes the Leafs should've kept both at the expense of William Nylander. Andrew Peters, known mostly for his use of his fists over his career was on the "Real Kyper and Bourne" show on Wednesday afternoon and came in with a hot take that the Leafs should've traded Nylander for cap reasons to keep Mikheyev and Lyubushkin.
The shock and confusion on the faces of Justin Bourne and Nick Kypreos when he said this is all you need to see to determine how dumb of an idea that would have been. I don't usually agree with Kyper and he usually has his own hot takes (like trading Nylander for Nick Ritchie), but even he had the common sense, stating that there was "no chance" he was keeping two replacement-level players over Nylander.
