Gotta see it: Tage Thompson lights up the Lightning with a spectacular goal

Tage Thompson is an absolute beast on the ice. At 6'6 220lbs, his size makes him a handful to defend against for even the steadiest of NHL defensemen. What makes him special is that size combined with an absolutely sick set of hands. Seriously, the guy is nasty with the puck.

Originally acquired as part of the Ryan O'Rielly trade, Thompson took a couple of seasons to get his feet underneath him. His big breakout was the 2021-22 season, a 38-goal, 68-point campaign. This season, he's out to prove last year wasn't a fluke, and so far he's doing an excellent job of it.

Monday night's tilt against the Lightning saw the Sabres fall behind 2 goals early. Naturally, Thompson got in hard on the forecheck, intercepted an outlet pass and danced around Cole Koepke and Brian Elliott before tucking the puck behind the Lightning netminder in spectacular fashion, giving his team some life, as he's done at so many points this season.

If the Sabres can get themselves into the playoff picture, I would hate to be the team that has to face Thompson for 7 straight games. Fortunately for the rest of the league, the Sabres have fallen off of their torrid early season pace, and currently sit outside a playoff spot. They are improving though and they've got 7 more seasons of Tage Thompson under contract to look forward to.
