After the Leafs confirmed that blueliner T.J. Brodie had been playing through a minor issue this weekend, ultimately scratching him in favour of 24-year-old Conor Timmins on Sunday in Philly, the Leafs placed Brodie on IR on Tuesday. This rules him out for the team's next 3 games against Nashville on Wednesday, Detroit on Thursday and Boston on Saturday.

Losing Brodie is not ideal for the Leafs, but they have dealt with significant injuries to some major pieces on the back end this year and still managed to thrive. In fact, during the Leafs' last stretch without Brodie, they went an amazing 10-0-3.

While Brodie is out, we can expect Timmins to remain in the lineup, which is certainly not a bad thing, as the young blueliner has amassed 10 points in the 12 games he's played with the Buds so far this season. Further to that, he has displayed excellent on-ice instincts in the defensive zone as well. His outlet passes have been clean and his attention to detail while defending has been solid.

It goes without saying that I'm sure Sheldon Keefe would rather have Brodie in the lineup than not, but it's certainly nice to know that even when missing a key piece or two, the sky isn't falling.
