Hurricanes bringing in Brent Burns with retained salary
The Carolina Hurricanes have been looking to add to the right side of their defense corps since trading Tony DeAngelo's rights to Philly. It appears they have found their guy in Brent Burns.
Burns would have to approve the trade as the Hurricanes are not on his trade list. He has 3 years left at an $8M cap hit but is owed $6.5M or less in actual cash the next 3 years. Something appealing to the Hurricanes and their owner Tom Dundon.
At 37 years old, Burns is near the end of his career, but is still an offensive producer, putting up 54 points this past season.
**Update**
Brent Burns and Lane Pederson for Steven Lorentz, goalie prospect Eetu Makiniemi and a conditional 2023 3rd-round pick. Sharks are retaining 33 percent of Burns contract.
