Coming out of the break, the Leafs will have a number of important injury updates coming as well, as players like Auston Matthews, Matt Murray and Victor Mete preparing themselves for February returns. There is one additional report from PuckPedia that is turning a few heads as well.
Per PuckPedia, Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov is scheduled to return to action on February 15th. Now, to be fair, that return date is completely unconfirmed, but what it does tell us is that there will likely be some sort of an update on Amirov on or around that date.
Amirov has been sidelined since early 2022 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The 21-year-old was limited to just 10 games with Ufa Salavat Yulaev as a result of his heartbreaking diagnosis and has been undergoing treatment for most of the last year. It was originally thought that Amirov would return to action at some point this past November, but the young winger ended up requiring additional treatment.
The Leafs had Amirov in town this summer/fall to train with the team and get involved in certain team activities, including an appearance and introduction at the team's home opener against the Washington Capitals on October 13th.
We're all crossing our fingers, I'm sure, for a positive update on Amirov. Hopefully he will indeed be able to resume his training and get back into some game action before the end of the year. However, right now, the biggest hope is that Rodion can beat cancer and that he can go on to live a healthy, happy life.
