With Anton Forsberg out for the season and with the Senators just a handful of points out of a Wild Card spot in the East, it is highly unlikely Talbot is available now. The cost to acquire him with retention would likely be a future second or third round pick and the Leafs would have to send salary out first or send a contract back to the Sens to make such a deal happen. Beyond that, there's no real reason to pursue such a deal with how well the Leafs' current #3 goalie, Joseph Woll, has played this season for both the Toronto Marlies and the Maple Leafs.
Talbot is on an expiring contract and is on the books for $3.66M this season. In 31 appearances for the Sens this season, Talbot is 14-14-1 with a 2.88 GAA and a .905 SV%. He would be a serviceable insurance policy if anything were to happy to Murray or Ilya Samsonov, but again - the Leafs already appear to have a capable number 3 in Woll, who is 2-1-0 in the NHL this season with a 2.04 GAA and a .938 SV%. In fact, in 7 career appearances with the Leafs, Woll is 5-2-0 with a 2.45 GAA and a .922 SV%, so even prior to this season, he has proven that he has what it takes to perform well at the NHL level.
