A two-time 20 goal-scorer in his career, Connor Brown played all of 4 games with the Capitals last season before undergoing ACL surgery and missing the rest of the season. The former Leaf, who played from 2015 to 2019 in the blue and white, should be fully recovered from his surgery and ready for training camp.

On Today's edition of 32 Thoughts, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned that there is a lot of interest in Brown, but teams want to know if he is fully recovered and what his asking price will be. Given the fact that he missed all of last season and was making $3.6M per season on his last contract, his cap hit is likely to come at $2M or lower on a 1-year "show me" type deal.

In mentioning that Brown has generated lots of interest around the league, Friedman specifically mentioned Edmonton as a potential landing spot for him, due to the Connor McDavid connection. Brown and McDavid played together in junior for the Erie Otters and Brown could see playing with McDavid as an opportunity on a one year deal to show he can still play and produce points to earn a lengthier and higher priced contract for the 2024-25 season.

The issue for the Oilers is cap space, as they currently have just $5M and have to fill 5 roster spots and need to sign Evan Bouchard to an extension, so they won't be able to offer him the most amount of money, but the opportunity to reunite with McDavid could win him over.

In recent years, the Oilers have also made plays for other former Leafs, such as Tyson Barrie, Zach Hyman and Jack Campbell.
