After weeks of speculation, it appears as though we are finally about to see Alex DeBrincat be traded. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Sens are trading DeBrincat in-division as well, which is not exactly common with star players. Per Friedman, DeBrincat is headed to the Red Wings, where he has reportedly also signed a contract extension.

DeBrincat was extended a qualifying offer by the Senators just before the opening of free agency, which allowed the Sens to retain his rights
while they worked towards trading him. DeBrincat's new deal with the Wings is a 4-year pact with an AAV of $7.875M.

The return from the Red Wings is Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 1st round pick and a 4th round pick in 2024.

DeBrincat, a former 40-goal scorer, undoubtedly makes the Red Wings a better team. This past season, the Wings finished 2nd last in the Atlantic Division with 80 points - 12 points behind the Florida Panthers, who made the Stanley Cup Finals. It will be interesting to see just how much more dangerous the Wings are in an evolving Atlantic Division.
