The Pittsburgh Penguins and their owners, Fenway Sports Group, had been close to naming a new General Manager last week when the Leafs announced that Kyle Dubas would not be returning as GM. That put the Pens' entire GM search on hold as they waited for permission to speak to Dubas and for him to contemplate returning to the NHL for the upcoming season.

Earlier this week, not only did Dubas speak with Pens' ownership, but on Tuesday he met with Penguins executives and also had a meeting with captain Sidney Crosby. Yesterday, on the Chris Johnston Show, CJ reported just how close Dubas is to becoming the Pens' new GM.

"I've heard from people not directly involved in the situation that they believe it's like 98% he's going to be taking a job there (PIT). I'm not sure if I can place my own percentage quite that high, but it seems like things are trending in that direction." - Johnston on the likelihood of Kyle Dubas ending up in Pittsburgh

At this point, with how much time Dubas and the Pens have spent talking, it would be more of a shock if he didn't accept the job than if he did. It seems like it's just a matter of Dubas getting the autonomy that he wants and will likely get at this point. Autonomy is the believed to be the primary reason why he is no longer the GM of the Leafs.
