With only $1.13M in projected cap space for the deadline currently, the Leafs would have to get creative, but it wouldn't be the first time and the Leafs could very well package one or two of their pending UFAs in a deal to clear more space. Additionally, the Leafs are waiting on Matthew Knies' season at the university of Minnesota to finish in the hopes of bringing him into the fold.
Knies is exactly what the Leafs need for their left wing - a big body that is also an offensive threat. High expectations shouldn't be placed on him coming directly out of college, but he could provide the offensive punch the Leafs need.
With just 8 and a half weeks until the trade deadline, the Leafs have a number of decisions to make, but the most important is whether they want to go "big game hunting" like they should or add more assets like they have in years past.
