Jack Campbell talks about his future in Toronto and what his priorities are next year
The 2021-22 season was a very up and down one for Leafs netminder and pending UFA Jack Campbell. For the first half of the season, Campbell was in the early Vezina Trophy conversation. The second half of the season was mostly forgettable for the 30-year-old netminder.
Campbell was one of several players to speak with the media on Tuesday for locker room cleanout day. On his pending UFA status, "Soup" revealed that winning in Toronto remains a priority for him.
"Winning here means everything to me. I love it here. I love the city, I love the fans, my teammates, the staff. As far as negotiating that'll be up to Kyle [Dubas] and my agent. I can't wait to see what we do next season as a team and myself.
"I can definitely give [the Leafs] more. It's been a really fun experience and I love being a Leaf. It's a hockey player's dream to play in a market like Toronto and I love it. As far as doing what I can to stay here, like I said that's up to my agent and Kyle to discuss"
-Campbell on what comes next
In terms of what Campbell's next contract might look like, I'd imagine that his agent will be pushing for the deal that Linus Ullmark signed in Boston this past offseason, $20M over 4 years ($5M AAV). Over 160 NHL games, Ullmark's career GAA 2.71, with a .913 SV%. Campbell, over 142 NHL games, has posted a career 2.56 GAA to go along with a .915 SV%.
