The 4-2 score was not the only thing the Leafs were on the losing end of on Monday, as defenseman Jake Muzzin left the game during the second period after an awkward collision with Yotes forward Clayton Keller and did not return in the contest. Here's the play in question.
On Wednesday, Muzzin's close friend and teammate Mitch Marner spoke on the Muzzin injury and his comments didn't exactly breed any confidence in Muzzin returning anytime soon. In fact, Marner made it seem as though there's a chance that Muzzin is done for the year.
If Muzzin's injury, which was originally believed to be a neck injury, is in fact another concussion, that will mark the third time in the calendar year that Muzzin will have suffered a concussion. Obviously, that's very concerning. With all we know about CTE and the lingering effects that come with traumatic brain injury, I don't think anyone would fault Muzzin for prioritizing his health over pushing to re-join the team. After all, with a young family, Muzzin has to look after what's really important. His long-term health and the family dynamic involved there.
