Pierre-Luc Dubios's stay in Winnipeg could end up being shorter than the Jets would have hoped. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the 23-year-old center, who is currently a restricted free agent, has informed the Jets that he will be planning on testing the free-agent market in 2024 and that any deal he signs, he wants it to be short term.

"Now the Jets have control of the process until then, and we're also hearing that they wish to keep him and have him as a Jet for a long time to come," Friedman said.

Dubios has arbitration rights and can be an RFA again next season if he signs a one-year contract. His qualifying offer would be $6.65 million.

The former 3rd overall pick was traded to the Winnipeg Jets during the 2020-21 season for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic after requesting a trade out of Columbus, presumably because of a rift with then head coach John Tortorella. In his first full year with the Jets, he played in 81 games, notching 60 points.

When Dubios hits the market in 2024, he will likely be a coveted free agent as teams will be looking to acquire a center with his skill set and tenacity. For Dubois, I gather that this has more to do with not wanting to endure a rebuild than it does with not liking the opportunities he's been presented with in Winnipeg.
