During the first period, Avs forward Nazem Kadri was driving hard to the net in an attempt to bat in a rebound given up by Jordan Binnington, when he was engaged by a Blues defender at high speed. As a result of the battle, the two players crashed into Binnington, which caused an unfortunate injury.
Binnington would come out of the game, forcing backup Ville Husso to come in cold and the rest is history. Following the game, Blues head coach Craig Berube insinuated that Kadri was to blame for the collision and that it was a deliberate intent to injure. I think anyone who saw the video might disagree.
During Nazem Kadri's post-game interview with NHL on TNT, Kadri's attention seemed to be drawn away from the interview momentarily, due to the fact that someone had thrown a water bottle at him mid-interview. That someone, according to multiple sources, was Jordan Binnington.
This is not a surprise, given Binnington's reputation as a bit of a hot-head. While Kadri may escape supplemental discipline on the play, I'd expect the NHL to fine Binnington for the throwing of the water bottle, as it certainly fits the bill for "unsportsmanlike conduct".
