The Toronto Maple Leafs came into last night's game without the likes of Auston Matthews and T.J. Brodie, and with players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson in town, the game could have gotten out of hand in a hurry. However, Martin Jones stood tall, stopping all 38 shots he faced, the defense banded together, as banged up as they've been, to help take care of things in the defensive zone, and the Leafs had a number of forwards step up their game in Matthews' absence, resulting in a 7-0 win on home ice.

You'd have assumed that players like John Tavares, William Nylander and Mitch Marner would step up and put the team on their shoulders, but the player who stepped up the most last night, surprisingly, was Max Domi.

Domi finished his night with a goal and 2 assists to cap off a 3-point night, skating on a line with Matthew Knies and former London Knights teammate Mitch Marner. Both Knies and Marner notched a goal and an assist, with the line combining for 7 points. Following the game, Domi had some great things to say about Knies, but you could tell from his post-game comments that he really felt the nostalgia value of playing with Marner again.

"Me and Mitchy are very familiar with each other. So, that was nice. Felt like the old days."

Fitting that Domi's first 3-point game of the season game playing alongside Marner, who is one of the league's premier talents. Even Knies, with his beautiful primary assist on Domi's 2nd period goal, displayed some elite vision, which Domi had benefitted greatly from.

It will be interesting to see whether this trio gets some looks again at some point down the line if the Leafs need to spark some offense. They were very, very effective during last night's blowout win over the Pens.
