Keefe explains why the Leafs called up rookie goaltender Joseph Woll
The Leafs made a surprising recall today as they called up Joseph Woll from the Marlies ahead of their game tonight against Ottawa. At first thought, everyone assumed that once again, Matt Murray was "injured" ahead of facing his former team.
That is not the case however, as Sheldon Keefe explained that Murray is fine and elaborated on Woll's recall. Keefe said that Ilya Samsonov is a little banged up and dealing with minor injury. Samsonov remained in Toronto to get treatment and tend to personal matters before the Leafs leave for the remaining 4 games of their road trip which will see them play 4 games in 6 days.
It would seem that Samsonov will be joining the team when they depart for Long Island, however, it would not be surprising to see Woll remain with the team for the road trip as a precaution.
