Keefe issues surprising comments on relationship with Wes McCauley
Many believe there is a conflict of interest when it comes to Leafs' head coach Sheldon Keefe and NHL referee Wes McCauley. That's because Keefe once testified in McCauley's brother-in-law's (David Frost) sexual assault case.
To many, there is some merit to it as McCauley has, whether the league admits or not, certainly made some very questionable and influential calls in Leaf games he has reffed in recent memory. That includes having Keefe fined following a game midway through the season.
Today, as McCauley is reffing game 3, Sheldon Keefe was asked about his relationship with McCauley. Surprisingly, Keefe didn't have a bad word to say about McCauley.
"Not at all Wes has treated me like a true professional the whole time I've been in this league, and I've been appreciative of that." - Keefe on McCauley
Compared to what Keefe has said in the past, this seems like he is attempting to use the media to give his team a bit of a break during tonight's game. Or at least hoping that that is what his comment will do. It will be interesting to see whether it works or if Keefe will be losing his temper during the game because of another bad call from McCauley.
