Kyle Clifford out indefinitely after coming to the defense of a downed teammate
Yesterday afternoon, the Toronto Marlies played at Scotiabank Arena where they were taking on the Belleville Senators. Just over half way through the first period Belleville forward Ridly Greig caught Mac Hollowell with a questionable hit. That caused Kyle Clifford to come over and begin teeing off on Greig.
Unfortunately for Clifford, he appeared to injure his hand in the exchange. An update from the Marlies on Monday confirmed that Clifford suffered a dislocation in his hand and is now out "indefinitely". Through 8 games with the Marlies this season, Clifford has 2 points and 23 penalty minutes.
The injury leaves Wayne Simmonds as the only "tough guy" available to the Leafs for the foreseeable future. Not that the Leafs have played him much either, but the ability to add a pair of tough guys to the lineup for certain matchups is a nice thing to have. Now that ability is cut in half.
