Ahead of last season, Kyle Dubas revamped the Leafs' goaltending department bringing in the likes of Curtis Sanford and Jon Elkin to help Ilya Samsonov, Matt Murray, Joseph Woll and others. It was one of Dubas' last moves regarding staffing before being fired in May. Since joining the Penguins, Dubas has not only signed former Leafs and invited undrafted players he previous saw with the Leafs, but he has also hired some former staff members as well.

Dubas has continued to poach from his former team as today the Pens announced they have hired Jon Elkin as their Director of Goaltending. Elkin was previously the Leafs' Head of Goaltending Evaluation and Development.

Elkin and Dubas have a long-standing relationship going back to Dubas' days with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Elkin joined the Leafs organization in 2018 as the Marlies' goaltending consultant before being promoted in 2021 to his most recent title.

Elkin is the second staff member to leave the Leafs and follow Dubas to Pittsburgh, the first being Jason Spezza. Many believe that he won't be the last either.
